In partnership with University College Cork Library, Sirius Arts Centre presents a selection of photographs by academic and photographer Judith Aronson who is known for her portraits of writers, academics and artists. Included in the long list of people she has photographed are Seamus Heaney, Norman Mailer, Diana Trilling, Saul Bellow, Sarah Caldwell and Salman Rushdie.
"A photojournalist’s body of work is likely to consist of professional assignments and of pictures taken in off hours. The latter may be deliberate set-ups, or experiments for personal expression, or the simple capturing of the day to day. There are the places one hangs out and the people one talks with. There is the decision to travel, and the pictures will reflect this. There is the company of good conversationalists, and so a gravitation to circumstances (a person, a situation) that invite a camera to eavesdrop. And if one opts for adventure over routine, this is another set of conditions. All of these have been my life for quite a number of years".
