SIRIUS is organising a workshop for Cruinniú na nÓg, a day that celebrates the creative potential of children and young people. This is a free session led by Lucia Taeubler, an experienced educator, who enables everyone to focus on their creativity and expression and helps trigger their curiosity to explore!
We can see symbols everywhere. They explain a particular procedure or narrate a specific story when we look around. In Marie Brett's exhibition, currently on view at SIRIUS, we find symbols in animal heads made out of willow, objects pinned to the gallery wall, and natural materials we encounter daily.
We have to know the background and heritage of symbols to decipher them with our peers and imagine new ones. Participants in this workshop look at symbols in their surroundings to ask what they represent and create their secret codes, alphabets, and signs.
