creating together!

creating together! is an online learning programme conceived and delivered by SIRIUS. It connects artists Carol Anne Connolly, Brigid O’Dea and Karen Power with children and young people. It fosters critical thinking around different forms of art and builds skills, stimulating a sense of personal progression and ownership.

SIRIUS is looking for participants for creating together! Each artist delivers a distinct workshop series and engages with a specific age group. Carol Anne Connolly: young people, 13–18 years; Brigid O’Dea: primary school, 6–10 years; Karen Power: pre-primary school, 3–5 years. Participation is free, but places are limited. Participants must commit to all sessions.

creating together! is partly funded by Creative Ireland, Cork County Council Library and Arts Service.

 

Carol Anne Connolly

Session one: 12 June 2021, part of Cruinniú na nÓg, 16.00–18.00
Session two: 26 June 2021, 16.00 –18.00
Session three: 10 July 2021, 16.00 –18.00

Carol Anne Connolly hosts a session on methods for generating artistic ideas and subject matter. Participants engage in photography, drawing, sound recording, and other research modes and techniques to respond to the natural and built environment.

Access to Zoom on a computer is required

Materials (not provided): sketchbook, pencil, A4 piece of card, cutting knife, masking tape, ruler, access to a camera (mobile phone or other), sound recording device (like the voice memo app on a mobile phone), word processing software (Microsoft Word, Text Edit, etc.) and image processing software (Affinity Photo or Photoshop)

Brigid O’Dea

Brigid O’Dea hosts a session exploring the fun and joy of reading, listening to stories and using our imaginations. Participants engage in activities that enable them to create stories of their own.

Karen Power

Karen Power hosts a session in which participants listen, explore, improvise and create soundscapes using found and nature’s sounds. This workshop is part of Natural Creators, a project by Power.

Materials (not provided): stones, leaves, sand, rice, pasta, moss, gravel, soil, cardboard (sourced in and around the home) and various metal and plastic containers
