There's a lot of life in the city.
Growing up in the countryside and living in the city for over a decade has had a big impact on Dublin three-piece indie band DIVAN.
'I think always having an innate desire to surround yourself with activity & action when all you've known is peace & tranquility comes out in our music. It draws me to people, and also to the art that I love.'
That music; pulsating rhythms & soaring vocals with oscillating guitars draws on a rich tapestry of styles and sounds, which evolves into a real statement of intent from a band with time and talent on their side.
It's not just vibrancy that has reflected itself in DIVAN, but a desire to understand art and what it represents to them in the modern day. The lyrical narrative in Modern Knowledge weaves its way through many themes affecting not just today's artists but everyone that, like Jamie, was drawn to the bustle.
'With time, we get better a sense of what is important to us. Artists who are comfortable with themselves having gone through various adjustments and transitions are ones who appeal to us now, as we've been on that same journey’.
Modern Knowledge was recorded in Attica Audio & produced by Ian McNulty & Brent Knopf (EL VY, Menomena, Ramona Falls). DIVAN features members of Ambience Affair & Tomorrows.
'Impressive, subtle & brooding' - The Irish Times.
