Culture Night 2023 at SIRIUS
22 September
7 - 9pm
SIRIUS presents two events exploring the connection between music, history, landscape and the elements: a performance by the singer-songwriter Lewis Barfoot, who has previously been in residency at SIRIUS, and an after-dark paranormal tour of the SIRIUS building by Cobh Supernatural Investigators
Performance by Lewis Barfoot
7 - 8pm
Free; no booking required
Lewis Barfoot is an Irish/English singer-songwriter based in County Cork. She blends ethereal, evocative vocals with original compositions and reinventions of traditional songs. Barfoot and her band present a unique musical promenade across the galleries and other areas of the building, featuring gently uplifting melodies that warm the heart and soothe the soul. On this occasion, she is joined by Gabriel Buffa on clarinet and Jordi Sanchez Campanario on ukulele and percussion. Barfoot’s 2021 debut album, Glenaphuca, received great support from RTÉ 1, FRUK, BBC Radio Ulster and RTÉ na Gaeltachta. Her new album, “HOME”, partly written while in residency at SIRIUS, is set for release on 17 November 2023, and welcomes rivulets of jazz and a beautiful rhythm section to her folk palette.
Curator’s Tour, part of Culture Night
8 - 9pm
Free; no booking required
SIRIUS director Miguel Amado and Critic in residence Sarah Long deliver an informal tour of the exhibition Anton Vidokle and the Institute of the Cosmos. The session reflects on the topics and aesthetics of Vidokle’s films and the expansive themes of Cosmism. In particular, it examines the significance of the specially designed, site-specific Institute of the Cosmos Reading Room, and the relationship between the Timeline of Cosmism, featured in this gallery, and theory and visual culture more broadly.
