Richard Proffitt
Centre Gallery, Sirius Arts Centre
11 March – 24 April 2016
Opens 10 March 7pm
Using the gallery’s location in Cobh, one of Ireland’s most historic ports, Richard Proffitt presents a new body of work that acts as a point of personal arrival and departure. Re-evaluating teenage drawings, discarded ideas, childhood memory, detritus and ephemera, Proffitt uses visual, written and aural media to create a ritualistic temple of history that summons, celebrates and annexes a recent past.
The exhibition also includes a digital archive of Proffitt’s recorded music from 2001 to 2016. This fifteen-year period of folk songs, collage experiments, cassette tape loops and recordings for exhibition offers further insight to the artist’s personal folklore and mythology. A limited edition LP compilation on 180-gram vinyl with a signed print and zine featuring an essay by Michael Hill will be available from the gallery.
Padraic E. Moore has written an accompanying text that will be available for the duration of the exhibition and Richard Proffitt will perform a new piece of writing on the opening night of the exhibition.
